Homework for Quarter 3

Announcement

WordEngine needs to be updated before it can work on iOS11. Please wait before upgrading to iOS11 or do your study on a real computer. WordEngine is a 32bit application, but iOS11 will now only run 64bit applications. If you have upgraded to iOS11, you will need to study WordEngine on a computer by signing into WordEngine.jp.

Due to typhoon cancellations on 23rd Oct:

  • OC FB class, we will do the article on Thursday, and conversation video recording. Bring your USB memory stick so you can get a copy of your video. Use this video to start your final report.
  • CS class, print and prepare answers for these questions for Unit 9 Yoga, RRW Intro.

Communication Skills

  • Review Conversation Gambits units: units 1, 3, 9, 10, 11, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 28, 29, 31.
  • Review English First Hand 2: units 1-8 (including grammar & pronunciation).
  • Prepare Reading in the Real World Intro: Unit 9 Yoga.
  • Review Reading in the Real World Intro, units 7, 8 & 9.
  • Do WordEngine (a little each day).
  • Do extensive reading, about 4,000 words a week, and have ER reports each Thursday.
  • Poster Presentation: Prepare presentation contents, notes, and poster.
  • Have fun 🙂

Literacy

  • Review English Grammar In Use units: 42, 69, 72, 85, 98, 99.
  • Blog:  Take some photos with your smartphone of interesting things like a Halloween party or the University Festival (nothing too personal).
  • Task 9, Love Story, complete the report for 6th November. The report should include an introduction, summary, critique (choose two or three: Themes and Quotes; Similes, Metaphors and Personification, or any of these Critical Review), conclusion, and references.
  • MUST return Love Story on the 6th November.
  • Do WordEngine (a little each day).
  • Do extensive reading, about 3,500 words a week, and have ER reports ready for each Thursday. Task 9 Love Story reading is included in the 3,500 word total.
  • Have fun 🙂

Oral Communication

  • Review pronunciation, conversation strategies, and vocabulary from Orbits units 13-18.
    • For the speaking test, we could do Orbits units 13-18. Prepare and review these, and revise your notes, ideas, and possible answers. Unit 18 Conversation Strategies may also be included in the speaking test instead of an article discussion.
    • Review info from your poster presentations, and get additional ideas from other people. This extra info can help you in your speaking test.

  • During the peaking tests you can use your own laptop to work on the final report.
